Tata Selo by Rogelio Sikat Reaction Paper
The story of Tata Selo by Rogelio Sikat is a story about a poor old man that killed the owner of his land. First of all this story portrays the social injustice in our society. An inequality where if you are poor, your reason will be invalidated. The story also tells us about the mistreatment of police officers to suspects. In the story, Tata Selo was hit by the "Hepe" several times because "Kabesa" is the one that give him his position. It is similar especially to all the brutality and killings by authorities from different administrations in the Philippines. This story also shows the slice of life of being a farmer and not owning the land. There are still a lot of this case in the Philippines in now age especially lands owned by big families.
After reading the story, it makes me fell that we need appreciate more the things that we possessed. We are very fortunate because we don't experience those kind of cruelty from greedy landlords and aristocrats. It also make me think that life is really unfair sometimes. Sometimes those people who just want to live a good will be forced to do things out of their will. It also makes me think about if you do something that you feel is right at the heat of the moment, is it still right?
As a young student aspiring to be an Engineer, I don't think there is something I can do right now but as a person and living in the Philippines where our ancestors fought for the freedom of this country, I must spread awareness about things like injustice and abuse.
